"Unpredictable..."

"..Bout to do something...You've never done before..."

Maybe Jamie Foxx was on to something. It's time to do something new. A lot of things have changed and a lot of things have been out of control. So hey, time for something new, ya know? It's been a busy year since the last post...(YIKES!!! Has it REALLY been that long?!?!?) I'm in the teaching arena and enjoying it tremendously. I'm not sure where I stand on the restaurant scene for me personally but so much has been going on with it around town...let's just say, it's not that appealing right now. Phase? I don't know yet. Permanent decision? Jury's out on that one, too. I enjoy immensely shows, special engagements, private parties, even some workshops... but the weekends in the questionable dynamics of the local restaurant scene...hmmmm...

Speaking of workshops, had the opportunity to study with Suhaila this past weekend. Wow!! Something I've always wanted to do since I first learned "Princess of Cairo". But the glute work...now that was something else!!! It's been a while since I've been in a workshop where I felt so totally lost and like I wasn't getting anything. The afternoon session sneaked up on me--kicked my butt but I enjoyed it. And Suhaila's performance in the show....now THAT is what brought me to middle eastern dance!!! It was freakin FANTABULOUS!!!! Then to top the day off (even though it wasn't until later that night, as I sat on my aching glutes on the drive home) I had an "Ah-ha!!!" moment and actually started translating some of the morning session to my "Sha'ni-speak". I get a lot of it now and have a better idea of where I need to go to get more of it. Now the question is do I take the red or the blue pill before going down the rabbit hole? Sneaked up on you with that one, huh?

Okay, that' sit for now..gotta jet..promise to do better..yadda, yadda...yadda, yadda... : )

Living my life like it's golden...

"I'm taking my freedom/pulling it off the shelf
Puttin' it on my chain/wearing it 'round my neck
I'm taking my freedom/puttin' it in my car
wherever i choose to go/It will take me far..."

I think Jill Scott was onto something with that one...

Wow...it's been so long since I visited my little blogging oasis that I didn't remember how to get in...yep, that bad...

So much has happened since that oh-so-long-ago last post...let's see, gigs, restaurants, frustrations...you name it, they have come and some have even managed to go. I did just recently have a simply fabu time in Raleigh, North Cackalackey, for a seminar weekend with Aziza, of Oregon slash Canada fame. Awesome workshop, awesome teacher, awesome performer...okay, I know I'm overkilling the "awesome" bit but words just can't sum up how freakin' great it was. I really needed the break and to "see other people' on so many different fronts in my life that to go somewhere new and just "be" for a couple of days was really cool. I think I really needed the time alone to figure out how I needed to start being with others, you know? Talk about coming back with a new attitude...

Oh but the workshop...oh my goodness, love, loved, LOVED it. It was challenging but retainable. Just the fact that you had an instructor that was so approachable, nice and open was worth every penny and more. Stillworking on those awesome layerings..gotta turn the brain off on those bad boys. I can't wait until she comes to the Atlanta area later...sign me up, I'm there...

To the ladies of Belly Revelations and to the whole bd community there, it was a great event and very impressive. Oh, oh, oh..yes, insert the Arnold Horshack call from "Welcome Back, Kotter" here..I actually got to place some names with faces for a couple of the people Anne Soffee wrote about in "Snake Hips". Great book that really captures so much of the bd sub-culture. Especially when you actually meet a "Woman of Selket" or Scherezade Import's infamous Lucy...gotta love it....

Okay signing off for now..promise to do better...yadda yadda, yadda yadda...
